For the restyling of Cafe Brix artists Sander Dekker and Graphic Surgery were chosen to grace the walls of this Amsterdam cafe/restaurant. The front of the cafe is filled with the highly energetic photos by Dekker, while the patio in the back is complemented by Graphic Surgery’s minimal abstraction. The contrast between the two areas make for an inspiring interior.
Graphic Surgery is an artist’s duo formed by Gysbert Zijlstra and Erris Huigens. Their fascination for industrial buildings and unconventional aesthethics combine very well with the Brix’s raw character. They used the bare brick walls and open ceiling with beams of sunlight entering as an inspiration for their angular murals. The black diagonals create a dynamic atmosphere that compliments the existing features of the restaurant.
Amsterdam based photographer Sander Dekker works in a spontaneous way. He gives his models carte blanche to express themselves during the shoots, and captures their energy with a wideangle lens to mimic human eye vision. His edgy pictures adorn the walls of Brix, where the visitors take Sander’s voyeuristic point of view and experience the complex synergy of the shoot.
